“Tax the Rich” Protest in Manhattan
On May 6, 2026, demonstrators gathered in Midtown Manhattan for a protest focused on economic inequality, wealth redistribution, and social justice. The march began near the New York Public Library, where activists, workers, students, and local residents assembled carrying signs and banners calling for higher taxes on billionaires and large corporations.
Throughout the demonstration, participants voiced concerns about the rising cost of living, housing affordability, healthcare access, and the growing gap between wealthy elites and working-class communities in the United States. Chants and speeches echoed through the streets as the march moved through Manhattan under the supervision of the New York City Police Department.
The protest later concluded outside Cipriani 42nd Street, a location chosen by organizers for its symbolic connection to wealth, luxury, and elite social events. The contrast between the demonstrators and the surrounding atmosphere highlighted the central message of the event: growing frustration over economic disparity and calls for systemic change.
This photographic reportage documents key moments of the protest, capturing the atmosphere of the march, the expressions of the participants, the presence of law enforcement, and the visual energy of a movement that briefly transformed the streets of New York into a space for political and social expression.
