New York-Earth Day Protest at Trump Tower-Extinction Rebellion Demonstration
On Earth Day 2026, April 22, 2026, climate activists affiliated with the environmental movement Extinction Rebellion gathered outside Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan to protest against fossil fuel dependence, corporate environmental policies, and what demonstrators described as political inaction on the climate crisis.
The protest brought together activists carrying banners, flags, and signs demanding urgent action on climate change and environmental justice. Demonstrators occupied areas surrounding the building’s entrance while chanting slogans and staging acts of civil disobedience intended to draw public attention during Earth Day events across New York City.
As the demonstration intensified, officers from the New York City Police Department intervened to clear portions of the sidewalk and surrounding streets. Several protesters were detained and arrested after refusing police orders to disperse. The scene created moments of tension between activists and law enforcement, while passersby and tourists gathered nearby to observe the unfolding events.
